Max Fletcher is a New York-based lutenist, guitarist, and singer dedicated to rediscovering the secrets of Renaissance musical practice.

In 2022 Max initiated ‘The Counterpoint Project’, a musical laboratory for teachers and students to experiment with and develop approaches to improvised counterpoint pedagogy. The Counterpoint Project has since offered workshops in New York, Turin, and Zurich.

Max is a recipient of the Lute Society of America’s generous Patrick O’Brien Scholarship, and has studied lute with Eduardo Eguez, Christopher Morrongiello, and Ronn McFarlane.

Max studied classical guitar performance at the New England Conservatory with Eliot Fisk; he also studied improvisation with Joe Morris, and composition with Stratis Minakakis and Davide Ianni.
